400C Energy, an enhanced geothermal systems (EGS) developer, today announced it has been selected by the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Geothermal (OG) for up to $7.8 million in funding under Notice of Funding Opportunity Number DE-FOA-0003472, Next Generation Geothermal Field Tests and Geothermal Resource Characterization and Confirmation. The award will support the re-entry and deepening of an existing geothermal well at Salt Cove, Beaver County, Utah, to evaluate whether the site represents an extension of the nearby Roosevelt Hot Springs hydrothermal system, a high-temperature next-generation geothermal resource in hot crystalline rock, or a transitional system. 400C is one of 21 projects selected nationwide under a program directing more than $99 million toward next-generation geothermal field tests and resource characterization.

"Salt Cove sits right next to one of the best-understood hydrothermal systems in the country, and confirming that extension gives us a fast, capital-efficient path to a high-temperature resource," said Blake Wood, Cofounder and CEO of 400C Energy. "This funding lets us go get that answer in the field rather than on paper."

Project Salt Cove gives 400C Energy a capital-efficient path to advance a high-temperature geothermal opportunity in one of the most important geothermal corridors in the United States. By building from an existing geothermal asset, the project will reduce early development risk, define the resource potential, and support future decisions on scalable, cost-competitive geothermal development.
